Sugar Land Farmers Market: Farm Fresh Cut Flowers and Bleach

Farmers Market is usually filled with a serene energy buzzing with character, quality, knowledge, insight, talent, nature loving people, artistic minds, and things. I absolutely loved the energy of the Farmers Market in Sugar Land this weekendit was wonderful! I had a delightful time with my Grandmother and Mom perusing the Market, touring the historic Imperial Sugar Plant and visiting the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation’s Pop Up Museum. Amongst my many finds, discoveries and encounters, I had to pass along this wonderful tip I learned about Caring for my Farm Fresh Flowers from Animal Farm in Cat Spring, Texas

I happened upon the last bunch of beautiful purple and white Farm Fresh Cut Flowers from Animal Farm, so naturally I asked his advice on the best way to care for them…

This is what I learned from Martin at Animal FarmCut the stems at an angle place in water with a spoonful of bleach. Replace the water about once a week, cut the stems again and add a little bleach… With this my Fresh Flowers should last me two weeks! The bleach kills the bacteria that is prone to developing on your flowers, therefore preserving them! Who would have guessed?!? Fabulous tip from the farmer himself! PS. They’ve perked up even more since I took the snapshot above!

I just love all of the interesting things I walk away with and learn while going to a Farmers Market. The people you meet, things you learn and things you take home with you are priceless!

Truly yours,

Emily Arnim
