So excited Houston will now boast it’s own fabulous Splendid store in Highland Village. Join LA Based Splendid and Crafting Community for an exclusive grand opening event in true creative style. This Splendid and Crafting Community event will include crafts, activities, sips, snacks and goodies for you and the family… Oh so Lovely!

LA-based lifestyle brand Splendid® announces a new store opening at Highland Village in October 2012. The 1,500 square foot space offers all of the line’s colorful, comfortable collections for women, men, kids and babies – Splendid, Splendid Mills, Splendid Girls and Splendid Littles – in an innovative, light-filled environment as happy as the brand itself. The store’s design stays true Splendid’s Southern California beachy roots with natural wood fixtures and a daybed for daydreaming; plus a wall of live plants brings an outdoor element to the space.

To celebrate the family-friendly brand’s introduction to the neighborhood, Splendid® partners with Crafting Community to host an event providing an oasis of crafting, creativity, and imagination for kids, parents and people of all ages. Created by Los Angeles based artist Karen Kimmel and Kid Concierge, Crafting Community events feature fun, interactive workshops focused on reusing and repurposing natural materials. Specially tailored for Splendid®, many of the workshops incorporate the essence of the Splendid® brand; all natural, ultra-soft, ultra-luxurious fabric.

Activities will include fun with fabrics, a fabric and beading workshop where participants create one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets and key fobs by braiding, twisting and knotting Splendid® fabric with colorful beads, as well as custom button making.  Guests will depart with all sorts of goodies and tasty treats!

{Fall DIY} Seriously the Easiest Pumpkins Ever

Okay, I am not kidding when I say that if I can DIY, so can you… I am not a crafty chick, although I wish I was. These DIY Foam Pumpkins with Upholstery Tacks are amazingly simple! Be creative with your designs and create a fabulous display of DIY Pumpkins. The tacks go in easily, and literally take minutes to whip up- NO GLUE REQUIRED :)

Supplies Needed for DIY Pumpkin:

Foam Pumpkins (Michael’s or Hobby Lobby) If you are creating the “initial” on a pumpkin, find one that has a flat side

Master the Mosquitos: Vanilla is a Repellent

So a little bird tells me I should put Vanilla behind my ears to repel those badgering mosquitos we know so well in Texas! It also works for Gnats on the Golf Course. Who would have thought this was the answer to repelling those pests?!? I guess I will give it a try, and put on my legs too. The Discovery Health Journal gives us“4 Healthy Ways to Use Vanilla“. I am going to try Pure Vanilla,  for the Mosquito Repllent, but I do love these DIY Vanilla Recipes good for you inside and out.
